What is psyllium husk?

Psyllium husk is a naturally occurring fibre that can absorb 25 times its own weight in water. When a person is constipated, the waste matter collected in the large bowel for long becomes dry, hard and difficult to pass. By absorbing water, the psyllium husk helps the stool to retain its moisture making it bulky, soft and easy to pass. Isabgul is the powdered form of psyllium husk.
