Flu viruses are very tiny and are present in the droplets that come out of the mouth or nose when an infected person coughs and sneezes. If the mouth and nose are not covered with a tissue or hanky, those droplets can spread and infect others. If the person coughs into his hand then the droplets with the virus are easily spread to any hard surface he touches like door handles, tables, phones, computer keyboard etc. and can live on these surfaces for some time. If other people touch these surfaces and then touch their faces, mouth or nose, the virus can enter their body and infect them.
