The disease affects cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and some wild animals and is highly infectious to other animals. Even though it is possible for humans to get this disease, it is extremely rare. Even after regular exposure to infected livestock, in humans the disease is mild and self-limiting. Human to human transmission has not been seen and it is not transmitted through eating infected meat as stomach acid kills the virus.
