This is a common birth injury. It is due to accumulation of fluid in the scalp as a result of the pressure, occurring on that part of the head during delivery. It is more common in prolonged labour and vaccum delivery. It causes no complication and does not require any medical treatment as it resolves on its own in a few days. Do not massage it or keep feeling it.
My sister’s baby is a day old and has a soft swelling on top of her head. Is this a head injury?
